No serious crashes on N1 as traffic volumes increase

The department of transport said over 2 000 vehicles are passing through the N1's toll gates per hour from midday.

POLOKWANE – Motorists travelling on the N1 South between Polokwane and Bela Bela are urged to exercise patience at tollgates as traffic continues to swell.

The province experienced an influx of road users heading into the long weekend with many motorists travelling back today.

Transport media liason officer Mike Maringa says no serious crashes have been reported as yet.

“Over 1 500 vehicles were recorded per hour at the Kranskop Toll Plaza, especially between 10:00 and 11:00 this morning.  The numbers have increased to over two thousand vehicles per hour from midday.”

Maringa said the department have deployed officers to all busy and strategic roads to ensure compliance.
