Numerous people treated after chemical leak at Germiston factory

Upon assessment, paramedics discovered that numerous patients were experiencing difficulty breathing.

An apparent chemical leak at a factory on La Bassee Road in Germiston has left numerous people injured on Monday.

ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said paramedics, along with several other services, arrived on the scene and found about 50 to 100 people standing outside the nearby factory, the Kempton Express reports.

“It is understood the factory had evacuated the workers after one of the chemicals leaked. Local authorities began to close off the road while emergency services set up a triage area,” Meiring added.

Upon assessment, paramedics discovered that numerous patients were experiencing difficulty breathing. The patients were treated for their injuries and were thereafter transported to various hospitals for further treatment.

The exact cause of this incident is not yet known, but local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
