Off-duty officer shot in George

A 30-year-old police officer was admitted to hospital in a critical condition after he was shot after a fight in Thembalethu.

Thembalethu detectives are working around the clock to follow up on all leads after an off-duty police officer (30) was shot and left with multiple wounds to his upper body and leg, reports George Herald.

The incident occurred at around 00:30 today, on 26th Street, Thembalethu, in George. 

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie, it is reported that the victim became involved in a fight with an unknown person, who then returned with reinforcements.

Pojie says shots were fired, leaving the officer in a critical condition, and he was later admitted to intensive care.

The shooters fled the scene in a vehicle and remain at large.

“Police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident, or the identity and whereabouts of the shooters, to come forward,” says Pojie.
