One-Day Cup wrap: Gqamane, Markram star for Titans

The 2022/23 Cricket South Africa One Day Cup is in full swing.

Ayabulela Gqamane took 5-31 as the Northerns Titans beat the Boland Rocks by six wickets in Paarl yesterday.

After being put into bat, Boland slumped to 30-4, before recovering to post 224 all out in 48.1 overs.

Captain Ferisco Adams top-scored with 50 before being caught and bowled by Gqamane, who also picked up the key wickets of Janneman Malan (nine) and Stiaan van Zyl (zero).

Michael Copeland (41), Shaun von Berg (34) and Farhaan Behardien (33) also made useful contributions with the bat for the hosts.

In reply, the Titans were 29-3 after 8.4 overs when Dewald Brevis was dismissed for 10.

But Aiden Markram (90*) and Sibonelo Makhanya (65) then put on 129 for the fourth wicket, before Markram partnered with Donavon Ferreira (37*) to get the Titans over the line.

It was Markram’s third consecutive 50 for the Titans, and he is the top-run scorer in the tournament with 259 at an average of 129.50.

Hardus Viljoen claimed all four Titans wickets.

At Newlands, WP spinner George Linde took 4-34 and pace bowler Tshepo Moreki 3-27 as the North West Dragons were bowled out for 172 in 45.1 overs.

Linde then made an unbeaten 44 and Gavin Kaplan 44 as WP reached their target with seven overs to spare.

In Division 2, the Eastern Cape Iinyathi claimed a 58-run win against Limpopo Impalas in Polokwane yesterday.

On Thursday, the Garden Route Badgers (formerly SWD) beat the Eastern Storm by seven wickets in Oudtshoorn, while the KZN Inland Tuskers defeated the Northern Cape Heat by 69 runs in Kimberley.
