One dead in alleged road rage attack in Roodepoort

The busy Hendrik Potgieter Road in Roodepoort was closed yesterday after one person was shot dead in an alleged road rage incident.

One person died after being shot in an alleged road rage incident on the corner of Hendrik Potgieter and Handicap Road in Ruimsig yesterday afternoon.

According to BCI Security’s operations manager Lionell Gaffney, the incident occurred at about 14:40 and the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unknown.

“Reports of a shooting circulated on our emergency groups, and we along with various other local security companies responded immediately, as did various ambulance services,” says Gaffney.

“Upon arrival, it was established that it was a road rage incident and one person was declared dead at the scene.”

Hendrik Potgieter Road, a major road in the area used by many motorists, was closed at the time by police as a crime scene.
