One killed during ‘mob attack’ in downtown Polokwane

The man was accosted by a group of men, who stripped him naked and assaulted him, police say.

Police have launched a manhunt after an unknown group of people reportedly murdered a 35-year-old man during a mob attack in Polokwane, Limpopo.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe said the attack happened at about 12pm on Thursday, the Review Online reported.

“It is alleged that a group of men accosted the man next to the taxi rank on the corner of Buite and Devenish Street, where they stripped him naked and assaulted him using sticks and stones,” he said.

“He died as a result of the beating,” added Ngoepe.

The motive behind the incident is still unknown.

No arrests have been made as yet, and police investigations continue.
