One of nine robbers arrested in Edenvale

Nine armed men robbed a business on St Johns Road in Edenvale on the East Rand this morning, police said.

Acting spokesperson for Edenvale police Lieutenant-Colonel Robbie Roberts said five of the men entered the business and tied up all the employees before loading printer cartridges into the back of a vehicle and fleeing the scene, Bedfordview Edenvale News reported.

Roberts added that the fast reaction by the Edenvale police sector vehicles resulted in the arrest of one of the suspects.

“A man matching the description given to the officers was stopped as he was about to board a taxi onto the R24,” said Roberts.

The man was later positively identified. He was also found in possession of a firearm and ammunition, added Roberts.

Approximately two hours after the robbery, officers from the Sebenza police spotted the vehicle the men used.

It was believed that a chase ensued and the driver of the vehicle smashed the car before fleeing into a nearby field in Kempton Park.

Police said the property taken during the robbery had been recovered.

Investigations are ongoing.

Last week, a tip-off to police led to an arrest of two of the four suspects following a house robbery in Edenvale Avenues, Ekurhuleni.

Police said the suspects gained access to a property in the Avenues and held two women hostage.

It was believed the other woman managed to escape the house and call for help.

The four men fled the premises after taking R700, a mobile phone and some jewellery.
