Owen Farrell to link up with Siya Kolisi?

Speculation is doing the round on whether the English player will be joining Racing 92 in France.

Racing 92 have issued a veiled denial amidst intense speculation over England and Saracens flyhalf Owen Farrell’s potential move to the French Top 14 club.

Farrell is reportedly on the brink of joining Top 14 leaders, signaling a possible end to his illustrious Test career. With his Sarries contract expiring in June, the 32-year-old’s speculated three-year deal would make him ineligible for international duty, having opted for a break from England duties in November.

While Racing, led by former England boss Stuart Lancaster, denied any agreement, a statement on their website intriguingly acknowledged ongoing speculations regarding Farrell.

“Racing 92 is regularly under the aegis of numerous speculations concerning movements within its workforce,” it stated. “We are delighted with the appeal of our club Racing 92. However, we deny any agreement concerning the English player Owen Farrell.”

The denial echoes Toulon’s recent response to reports about England and Northampton Saints stalwart Courtney Lawes, underlining a trend of Top 14 clubs refuting rumours.
Farrell, who captained England to a third-place finish at the 2023 Rugby World Cup, is understood to have met with Lancaster and Racing owner Jacky Lorenzetti.
Meanwhile, England head coach Steve Borthwick remains optimistic of Farrell’s return to national duty, but emphasises the decision rests solely with the 112-Test playmaker.
“We’re all hopeful that he’ll return to the England team at some point soon,” Borthwick was quoted in the media.
“This is one of England’s greatest-ever players– greatest-ever captains.
“I am really hopeful he will play for England again, but I made it really clear there is no pressure on him. It’s his decision, at the time that’s right for him.”
