A Pakistani businessman survived an alleged assassination attempt in Pietermaritzburg on Thursday night.

With only a few minutes to spare, Abid Hussain Kashmiri, the Pietermaritzburg president of the Pakistani Association of Southern Africa, drove himself to hospital for life-saving treatment.

A local security company told Weekend Witness that Kashmiri was in his white Toyota Land Cruiser SUV in a parking area behind Failsworth Road, that’s adjacent to a service station, on a phone call when the alleged attempted hit took place.

A man emerged from a vehicle, parked nearby, with a GP registration. He allegedly walked towards the victim’s vehicle, fired four shots and fled.
