Parliament congratulates SA paralympics team on stellar performance
The Paralympic Games 2020 officially ended in Tokyo, on Sunday (September 5), and the Portfolio Committee on Sports, Arts and Culture congratulated the South African Paralympics team on their efforts this year in Japan.
Chairperson of the committee, Beauty Dlulane, said, “We are excited that these athletes overcame not only disability, but all adversity including being disadvantaged in their daily lives. The performance that the South African team put on as a team and as individual athletes is worth marvelling on.”
The South African team ensured seven medals were won at this year’s games and Dlulane said that the effort should be rewarded.
Government wants the Portfolio committee to keep a keen eye on how Paralympians are supported so that they become well-prepared for future games. Team South Africa came fifth among African countries with four golds, a silver and two bronze medals.
“We are proud of our champions, the department and sport organisations should make good to our athletes,” said Dlulane.
