Passenger robbed by e-hailing driver in uMhlanga
A passenger was allegedly threatened with a knife and robbed of his valuables by an e-hailing driver in KZN.
A man has allegedly been robbed by an e-hailing driver in Izinga Ridge on Friday afternoon, Northglen News reports.
The man, who was a passenger, had ordered a ride from Lighthouse Road in uMhlanga to Izinga Estate.
KZN VIP Security spokesperson Gareth Naidoo said the victim was dropped off near Windsor Circle after being robbed of his valuables.
“During the trip, the driver allegedly pulled off near Windsor Circle, produced a knife and robbed the passenger of an undisclosed amount of valuables. The suspect then forced the victim out of the vehicle before fleeing in a blue Renault Triber.
“The victim attempted to pursue the vehicle on foot but lost sight of it. One of his valuables was later recovered after the suspect reportedly discarded it while fleeing. The victim declined to provide his personal details to KZN VIP responders and stated he would report the matter to SAPS,” he said.
Naidoo added this kind of crime, including the snatching of phones, was common.
“We urge the community to be alert at all times when walking in and around the uMhlanga vicinity,” he said.
