Peacock found in car boot after high-speed chase on Umhlanga Rocks Drive

TWO car theft suspects were arrested after a high-speed chase ended in a vehicle rollover on Umhlanga Rocks Drive (near the BP service station) just after 8.20am on Monday morning, Northglen News reports.

Marshall Security‘s Tyron Powell said security officers also found a live male peacock in the boot of the overturned vehicle.

“The suspects had initially attempted to steal a vehicle in eMdloti in the early hours of Monday morning but were unsuccessful. The suspects were spotted fleeing the scene in a maroon Toyota Etios and an alert was sent out by the UIP of the area.

“Around 45 minutes later the same vehicle was spotted in uMhlanga by security officers from Marshall Security. When the suspects realised they were being followed, they sped off which then led to a high- speed chase on Umhlanga Rocks Drive. As the suspects neared the service station they lost control of the vehicle and rolled down an embankment. The suspects then attempted to flee on foot but were soon apprehended,” he said.

At this stage, Powell said it was unclear why the suspects had a peacock in the boot of their getaway vehicle.

“The peacock was alive and well in the boot of the vehicle and Jason Arnold has taken the bird to local NPO, Broken Wings, who are looking after the bird. We also found several tools used to break into vehicles in the Etios,” he said.

A third suspect linked to the same gang evaded arrest and according to Powell was in another vehicle, which had been stolen in uMhlanga this morning.
