Phala Phala accused’s bail hearing set for Friday
A man and a woman are accused of stealing US$580 000 (about R10.69m) from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s game farm.
Two suspects appeared in the Bela-Bela Magistrate’s Court today on charges of theft, housebreaking with the intent to steal, conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit housebreaking with the intent to steal and a charge of money laundering.
The case of the alleged robbers, Imanuwela David (39) and Frolian Joseph (30) is linked to the theft of a large amount of money at President Cyril Ramaphosa’s game farm – Phala Phala – in the Bela-Bela district.
According to Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, the NPA Limpopo spokesperson, an estimated amount of US$580 000 (about R10.69m) was stolen at Phala Phala.
One of the suspects was apprehended on Sunday in Rustenburg and the other suspect was taken into custody yesterday by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Bela-Bela.
The case has been postponed to Friday for David to arrange legal representation, and their formal bail application to continue.
