Police constable in court for allegedly transporting drugs in Limpopo

Three men were arrested after police intercepted vehicles allegedly carrying a large consignment of dagga in Groblersdal.

A Limpopo police constable is among three men who remain behind bars after being caught transporting dagga worth an estimated R200 000 near Groblersdal on Monday (May 11), reports Review Online.

Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the trio appeared before the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday (May 13), following their arrest during an intelligence-driven operation at the Groblersdal Bus Terminal.

The accused, identified as Constable Mulondolozi Khumalo (33), Musa Nkosi (36) and Rakawane Sandisile Xolisole (23) were remanded in custody until May 22 for a formal bail application.

Ledwaba said members attached to the Sekhukhune Highway Patrol acted on information about two vehicles allegedly transporting dagga to Musina.

“The vehicles were spotted and instructed to stop. The drivers failed to comply, resulting in a pursuit,” said Ledwaba.

Police later managed to stop and search both vehicles, where they allegedly discovered 17 compressed dagga bales.

According to Ledwaba, that was when one of the suspects was identified as a police constable stationed at SAPS Carolina in Mpumalanga.

The case is being investigated by the Limpopo Provincial Anti-Corruption Unit, while investigations continue.
