Police make swift arrest after Mossel Bay murder

A 39-year-old man is due in court after being arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly woman.

A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 62-year-old woman in her Ocean View flat in Mossel Bay.

According to Mossel Bay Advertiser, local police led by Lieutenant Colonel Ashley Michaels arrested the suspect less than 48 hours after her body was found with a wound to the neck.

Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, said the suspect was arrested in KwaNonqaba last night.

Though the victim’s identity is known to Mossel Bay Advertiser, it will not be made public until family members have arrived in Mossel Bay.

The suspect remains in custody and is expected to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court once charged.

He faces charges of murder and theft of a motor vehicle. Additional charges may be added to the charge sheet.

The investigating officer is Warrant Officer Francois Pick.
