Police offer reward following SABC crew mugging

Gauteng police are offering a reward of up to R100 000 for any information that could lead to the arrest and the successful conviction of the suspects who mugged and robbed the SABC TV crew on Tuesday night.

Police said: “Anyone with information can contact Colonel Modise on 082 778 9416 or Captain Masilela on 081 726 5896.”

The SABC journalists had been mugged outside Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg. SABC contributing editor Vuyo Mvoko, foreign editor Sophie Mokoena and journalist Chriselda Lewis were preparing for a live crossing on Tuesday night after covering the arrival of Zambian President Edgar Lungu at the hospital.

Colonel Noxolo Kweza previously said the armed robbers accosted the crew and robbed them of their valuables, including laptops and cellular phones, outside the hospital.

The robbery was recorded on camera, and no injuries were reported

Kweza said cases of robbery and theft has been opened. Police have vowed to find and arrest the men.

Police investigations are continuing.
