Police officer arrested for tampering with evidence

It was reported that on the day of the business robbery, a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects.

A 53-year-old police officer associated with Thembalethu SAPS was arrested today, 18 March for tampering with evidence in connection to a business robbery, at Puma garage in Thembalethu, which occurred in George on 31 January 2022.

This happened after a search and seizure operation, which was led by the Hawks’ team within the office of the suspect, and led to the discovery of empty cartridges which were removed from the crime scene.

It was reported that on the day of the business robbery, a shootout ensued between the police and the suspects.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested the suspect and this was after the team determined that the suspect had removed evidence from the scene. The Captain is currently in custody.

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Thembalethu Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 22 March with a charge of obstructing the course of justice .
