Two people were arrested and dagga with an estimated street value of R80 000 was seized following a high-speed pursuit in Secunda area on Saturday, (September 26), reports Ridge Times.

According to the police, members of the Secunda Flying Squad received a request for backup from the 10111 call centre after a vehicle failed to stop when instructed to do so by police in Ermelo.

The information was immediately relayed to other operational units.

Members of the Secunda Flying Squad, supported by the Ermelo K9 Unit, responded and pursued the vehicle, which was eventually stopped in the Brendan Village area.

During a search of the vehicle, police discovered the dagga and arrested the duo.

The two are expected to appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of dealing in dagga.

The Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Apaphia Modise, commended the officers for their swift response and teamwork.

“This operational success is a clear demonstration of the importance of effective communication and coordination by various police units. The men and women in blue ensured that suspects who thought they could evade police were brought to book.

“We remain committed to intensifying the fight against drug trafficking, which contributes to crime in our communities,” said Modise.
