Polokwane CBD shooting victim dies in hospital

A man who was shot twice while withdrawing money from an ATM last week has passed away.

Polokwane police have intensified their search for the people involved in the shooting of a businessman in the CBD, following the victim’s death in hospital on Wednesday.

Petrus Monyapho from Lenyenye in the Mopani District was shot twice on March 8 while withdrawing cash from an ATM at a shopping centre in Bok Street, close to the taxi rank.

“Police initially opened a case of attempted robbery and attempted murder, but [this] has now been converted to murder,” says SAPS spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.

Provincial police commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe calls on the community to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the shooters.

Anyone with information about the incident can contact investigating officer Warrant Officer Thamaga Joseph Malebana on 072 492 9635 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, to their nearest police station or use the MySAPS App.
