Mpumalanga premier calls for medical staff to be suspended following baby’s alleged neglect
The premier and the MEC for health, Sasekani Manzini, visited the mother on Monday and arranged for counselling services to be provided for her and her family.

Premier Refilwe Mtshweni-Tsipane has called for the immediate suspension of the doctors and nurses of Bernice Samuel Hospital in Delmas involved in the recent alleged neglect of a three-week-old baby.
The baby and his mother went to Witbank Hospital where the baby had to have his arm amputated due to the alleged neglect at Bernice Samuel.
The premier has assured the baby’s family that a thorough inquiry will be conducted.
“While the investigation begins, the medical staff involved should be suspended with immediate effect and we should get a preliminary report by next week. We need only the truth as to what happened, but we also need to make sure that we support the family and offer counselling to the young mother and the rest of the family,” said Mtshweni-Tsipane.
