Pretoria taxi-owner killer sentenced to life imprisonment
A 20-year-old man was sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of the murder of a local taxi owner.

The accused, Donald Sunnyboy Masango from Cullinan, was arrested in January 2020 for robbery.
The firearm found in his possession was linked to the murder case of a taxi owner in December 2019.
Cullinan police spokesperson Constable Connie Moganedi said the suspect was found in possession of the deceased’s firearm.
“The Cullinan SAPS management applauds Detective Sergeant Sibusiso Ngwenya for his excellent and intensive investigation on this murder case,” said Moganedi.
The police were summoned to the murder scene near Onverwacht sometime in December 2019, where they discovered the body of an elderly man inside the taxi with gunshot wounds.
“There were no eyewitnesses or anyone who knew about the circumstances surrounding the victim’s death,” said Moganedi.
However, the suspect was arrested the following year in January in Refilwe for robbery and the weapon used was linked to the taxi owner’s murder.
“Sergeant Ngwenya conducted his investigation thoroughly and professionally, presented the evidence before the court of law which led to an arrest, trial, conviction.”
Donald Sunnyboy Masango was found guilty by the High Court and sentenced to life imprisonment on June 28 this year.
In another case, Detective Ngwenya managed to secure 10 years imprisonment for 26-year-old Bheki Prince Khadwane, who was the accused in a murder case on the same date.
The suspect was arrested after a man was stabbed to death at a local tavern in Cullinan in 2018.
Cullinan SAPS management thanked the first responders and all members involved for professionalism in handling these cases.
Moganedi added that both convictions would serve as a deterrent to potential criminals, and the police would continue to ensure that victims of these crimes receive justice.
“The detective worked tirelessly on both cases to make sure justice prevails after all.”
Moganedi encouraged the public to continue to work with the police and report any crimes to the police on 08600 10111.
