Public prosecutor arrested for drinking and driving in Margate

More than 130 motorists have been nabbed for drinking and driving in just two weeks during women-led roadblocks across KZN.

A public prosecutor was one of  54 motorists arrested for drinking and driving in KZN yesterday, says the KZN Department of Transport.

South Coast Herald reports that the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) arrested the 44-year-old woman for driving under the influence of alcohol at about 23:01 on the R620 Marine Drive in Margate.

According to RTI, her alcohol reading was 0.83mg/l, which is four times over the legal limit.

MEC of Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma asks: “What is the contribution of the legal fraternity in curbing road fatalities caused by binge drinking?”

“Our Zero Tolerance, No Nonsense and Alufakwa campaign is our only weapon in our battle against drinking and driving. Hopefully, this latest arrest will ignite a conversation.”

Over the past two weeks alone, the RTI team has arrested more than 130 motorists for drinking and driving.

The arrests were made in multi-disciplinary roadblocks led by women commanders.
