R32-million worth of drugs seized at Lebombo Border Post

A 63-year-old Mozambican national was arrested this morning after 136 kilograms of suspected heroin and 19 kilograms of suspected crystal meth were found in his bakkie at the Lebombo Border Post.

Customs officials of SARS and the SAPS were doing routine inspections on vehicles coming into South Africa, when they discovered the drugs valued at over R32 million at about 08:00.

The drugs were covered with pieces of charcoal. Over R30 000 in cash was also seized.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Komatipoort Magistrate’s Court tomorrow on charges of the possession of drugs.
