R7m worth of shoes stolen in KZN
The driver of a hijacked truck, carrying a renowned brand of takkies, is still missing.
Adidas takkies, valued at R7m, were stolen from a hijacked truck in Cato Ridge, KZN, on Wednesday.
According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) spokesperson Prem Balram, the truck’s owner contacted Rusa on Friday afternoon.
“He informed the controller on duty that he received information that his hijacked trailer, which was loaded with a 12m shipping container, was abandoned in Verulam. The caller forwarded a picture that he received from an informer to the Rusa Operations Centre,” says Balram.
He says reaction officers tracked the container to Tongaat and recovered the trailer. The shipping container was empty.
“The owner was provided [with] the location and arrived shortly thereafter. He informed reaction officers that his truck was hijacked near a service station.
“The trailer and shipping container loaded with 6 900 pairs of Adidas takkies were missing. All the shoes were of the same styling,” he says.
At the time of publishing, the driver had not been located.
