Radio presenter Darren Scott’s voice forever quiet

Tributes are pouring in on social media for ‘Just Plain Darren’, who brought a personal touch to radio.

South Africa woke up this morning to the tragic news that well-known radio presenter Darren Scott had passed away.

Scott’s distinct voice dominated the airwaves for decades at radio stations like 5FM, Jacaranda, East Coast Radio and, at the time of his passing, HOT102.7.FM.

In a tribute on social media, HOT102.7.FM called Scott ‘the man who made radio personal’.

He was 61 and had been battling stage four malignant melanoma. His battle with cancer started nearly 40 years ago, and he has shared publicly how he endured several surgeries and severe reactions to treatments.

In March, Scott shared the heartfelt moments he had while on holiday in the USA with his family. At the time, he said the visit with his family had given him strength to keep fighting.
