Rape suspect identified by victim at Bushbuckridge Police Station
A woman who went to a police station to report a rape case came face-to-face with her alleged attacker.
A rape victim who was opening a case at Bushbuckridge Police Station was unexpectedly confronted by her alleged rapist when police brought him in on a separate rape charge.
Lowvelder reports that the 30-year-old suspect had just been arrested in connection with another rape and was escorted into the charge office, where a 36-year-old woman was in the process of registering her case on Thursday.
According to Mpumalanga police spokesperson Captain Mpho Nonyane-Mpe, the woman had been raped on Monday.
She was walking home with friends when a man joined them. After her friends turned off in another direction, the man allegedly produced a firearm, threatened her, and forced her into nearby bushes, where he raped her.
While reporting the incident on Thursday, the woman reportedly recognised the man being escorted into the station.
Police later confirmed that he had been arrested for allegedly raping a 26-year-old woman with whom he had previously been in a relationship.
“During the arrest, members searched the suspect and found a firearm and ammunition in his possession. These items were confiscated and will form part of the investigation,” said Nonyane-Mpe.
The suspect faces multiple charges of rape as well as the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. Police investigations are continuing.
