Reserve Bank bursary applications for 2027 economics students still open

Qualifying applicants with strong academic results can secure financial support for their first year of university.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has invited prospective economists entering university in 2027 to apply for its bursary programme.

“The SARB, as part of addressing the severe shortage of skills in South Africa, provides scholarships and bursaries to students in relevant fields of study who are from disadvantaged backgrounds,” the bank said.

Requirements and deadline

According to Bloemfontein Courant, applicants must have provisional acceptance for an undergraduate economics degree, achieve an average of at least 70%, and obtain 70% or more for mathematics. Candidates must be under 30 years old and demonstrate financial need, with applications closing on September 30.

Applicants must submit their examination results, proof of acceptance at a recognised institution, and supporting documents using promo code SARBERD27.

Potential bursary recipients may be required to attend an interview, while successful candidates must sign an agreement with the SARB.
