SA expats can soon get passports delivered to their doorstep
The Department of Home Affairs is launching a new courier service for South Africans abroad, starting in 18 cities worldwide.
South Africans living abroad will, as of next month, be able to request that their passports be delivered straight to their door.
This was announced by the Department of Home Affairs, stating that as of November 1, the option for courier delivery of passports will be available at all of the new Home Affairs service centres around the world, Zululand Observer reports.
The ‘doorstep delivery’ was unveiled by Home Affairs Minister Dr Leon Schreiber recently during his address to the South African community in Hague in the Netherlands, where the department has launched its latest dedicated service centre.
Courier service might be implemented in SA too
Schreiber said the courier service to South Africans living abroad will allow the department to refine and perfect the process before rolling it out in South Africa as well.
“The service will initially be available at the existing service centres located in 18 cities around the world, with more set to be launched over the coming months,” said Schreiber.
He said once the initiative is working smoothly and securely abroad, it will be scaled-up and extended locally.
“This latest step demonstrates that the tech-driven service delivery revolution underway at Home Affairs continues to gather momentum as we work to deliver dignity for all.”
