School robbed of R50 000 worth of musical instruments in Phoenix
A case of business robbery has been opened and is currently under investigation at Phoenix SAPS.
Musical instruments to the value of R50 000 were stolen and a school caretaker was tied up during a robbery at a primary school in Croftbury Road, Phoenix last Monday.
Communications officer of Phoenix SAPS, Cpt Louise Naidoo, said, “The principal discovered that the school had been robbed the next morning after he noticed that someone had entered his office through the ceiling. He found that the main entrance gate was slightly opened and access was gained through the ceiling of the classrooms.”
When the principal went to the caretaker’s room, he found the 36-year-old caretaker tied up with no visible injuries.
The caretaker alleges that he was in his room at the school when he was approached by six unknown men, who tied his hands and legs.
“The police were contacted and upon inspection of the classrooms, it was discovered that the ceiling was damaged and small items were taken. The music room was opened and it was discovered that musical instruments to the value of R50, 000 was taken. A toy firearm was found at the school. Fingerprints were taken from the toy gun and an overhead projector stand. A case of business robbery has been opened and is currently under investigation at Phoenix SAPS,” said Cpt Naidoo.
