Search continues: 2 swept away during cleansing ritual in Kliprivier

Two youngsters (aged 18 and 21 respectively) have been missing since Sunday.

The Emergency Management Services (EMS) in Johannesburg continue their search for two young individuals, aged 18 and 21, swept away during a cleansing ritual in the Kliprivier near Olifantsvlei.

Robert Mulaudzi, the spokesperson of EMS, says the search has been ongoing since the incident was reported on Sunday.

“We plea that residents exercise caution during cleansing rituals and baptisms to ensure their safety,” adds Mulaudzi.

He emphasises the importance of traditional healers, prophets, and pastors prioritising safety during such rituals to prevent incidents like the recent one.

Furthermore, he urges residents not to approach rivers, especially in the aftermath of heavy rains, as a precautionary measure.
