Search for driver after vehicle plunges off cliff in Western Cape
Police and rescue teams are trying to locate a man who went missing in the coastal suburb of Voëlklip during the severe weather.
Emergency services are continuing a search and rescue operation at Voëlklip after a vehicle went over a cliff at one of the lookout points during adverse weather conditions overnight, reports George Herald.
According to information released by Southern Cape police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Chris Spies, police were alerted to a missing person case after a man from Great Brak River reportedly left his residence yesterday (May 12) and failed to return home.
The man was officially reported missing at 23:00, prompting authorities to launch a search for both the man and his vehicle.

The search led officials to the Voëlklip area, where emergency teams discovered that a vehicle had gone over a cliff. However, rescue operations were initially hampered by adverse weather conditions, which made access to the area impossible during the night.
Spies confirmed that multiple emergency services are involved in the operation, including police divers, EMS Search and Rescue crews, the George Municipality Fire Department and traffic officials.
“The search and rescue operation is still underway,” he said.
The missing man is believed to be 62, but no further details regarding his identity have been released.
