Search for missing Langebaan hiker continues

The search for a missing hiker on the Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve trail is being hampered by wet weather conditions.

An extensive search has been launched for Hermie van Zyl from Langebaan, who went missing on the Tsitsikamma hiking trail on Tuesday.

Knysna-Plett Herald reports that Van Zyl (74), a dental technician from Langebaan, was separated from his hiking group along the MTO Tsitsikamma Nature Reserve trail on Tuesday afternoon, in the direction of the Heuningbos hut to Sleepkloof hut.

He was wearing denim shorts and a khaki short-sleeve, button-down shirt.

Various emergency teams and South African National Parks rangers have been working around the clock to locate Van Zyl, without success.

The search and rescue continues, but wet weather hampered the efforts today.

The search is being co-ordinated by Storms River SAPS.
