Search underway after 83-year-old assaulted in George farmhouse

A neighbour alerted the authorities after an elderly man was discovered hurt and tied up.

George detectives are investigating a house robbery that occurred on Friday at a farmhouse along Airport Road, George.

George Herald reports that, according to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies, an 83-year-old man was found (with his hands tied) by a neighbour on Saturday afternoon.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the victim left his residence at about 18:00 on Friday, and upon his return, encountered a man and a woman inside his bedroom. The suspects assaulted him, tied his hands, and packed groceries and personal items before fleeing the scene,” says Spies.

The victim sustained injuries to his body and was transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

At this stage, it is not yet clear what items were stolen. The suspects remain at large and a search is underway.

The investigation officer, Warrant Officer Siphokazi Nonjiwe, urges the public to come forward with any information that could lead to the arrest of the assailants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact George detectives at 044 803 4715 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
