The Pietermaritzburg City Hall is surrounded by SAPS officers, traffic police, and private security personnel  as preparations are underway for a critical meeting aimed at resolving the long distance taxi strike.

The closed meeting will bring together the South African National Taxi Council, Premier Thami Ntuli, MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma and other taxi associations who have been impacted by the taxi strike.

At the heart of the talks is the ongoing strike by the Durban taxi drivers and owners, which erupted in response to Operation Shanela, a national law enforcement campaign targeting unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles.
