Seven in hospital after 9-vehicle pile-up closes N3 in Ekurhuleni
Both lanes were closed for traffic and were only reopened after 5pm.
The N3 freeway north bound was brought to a standstill on Wednesday after nine vehicles were involved in a pile-up between the Total Petroport and Barry Marais Road off-ramp outside Vosloorus.
Seven people were taken to hospital with injuries ranging from serious to minor, said William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni emergency services.
He said emergency services received the call at 12.40pm. Nine light motor vehicles were found to have been involved in a crash allegedly caused by dense smoke caused by a grass fire adjacent to the freeway.
Both lanes were closed for traffic and were only reopened after 5pm.
