Sewpujun murder case remanded to April
Shahiel Sewpujun murder accused Kavitha Naicker and Rajwanthi Haripersadh appeared in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday where the case was remanded to April.
The case was postponed to April 14 while the court awaits the indictment. Four weeks were granted for the indictment to be finalised. During their appearance, angry residents allegedly threw insults at the pair, Phoenix Sun reported.
Naicker and her mother Harpersadh are both accused of killing nine-year-old Sewpujun, whose naked and bruised body was discovered inside a manhole in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal in February. A postmortem report showed the boy had been bludgeoned in the head with a blunt object.
Naicker was arrested a few days after the body was found while Haripersadh was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Albert Luthuli Hospital following an alleged suicide attempt that happened a day before Sewpujan’s body was discovered.
Last week, Ishara Dewnarian, Sewpujun’s mother, said was not willing to forgive Naicker and Haripersadh for allegedly murdering her son.
“I cannot understand how anyone could forgive someone who tortured and killed their child in that way. They are my own blood, but I cannot bring myself to forgive them – not for what they did to my baby,” Dewnarian told Phoenix Sun.
