Six people charged for assault of lifeguards at Durban beach

An attack on lifeguards on South Beach in KZN resulted in the arrest of six suspects, including illegal foreigners.

Coastal police officers arrested six suspects following an incident on Saturday where a group of people attacked lifeguards at a Durban beach.
One officer was injured when the situation escalated, and backup was sought.
“A total of six suspects were apprehended, with one officer sustaining minor injuries during the operation. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two of the suspects were illegally in the country, and one was flagged as wanted,” shared Durban Metro spokesperson Colonel Boysie Zungu.
“All six suspects were charged and detained at Point SAPS with the assistance of law enforcement teams. Charges include assault, resisting arrest, and immigration violations.
“We commend the officers and supporting teams for their swift action in maintaining public safety. Let’s continue working together to ensure our beaches remain safe for everyone,” concluded Zungu.
