Son in court after mother’s assault in Ekurhuleni mall

A man appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court for assaulting his mother and girlfriend.

A man was charged with two counts of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm following separate incidents involving his girlfriend and his mother, reports Benoni City Times.

The latest incident occurred on Friday at the Daveyton Mall when his mother was attacked inside a food outlet, allegedly by him.

A video on social media shows a security guard pushing the man into the shop while several others try to enter and assault him. The footage also captures an elderly woman seated and bleeding profusely from the face.

According to Constable Ntando Ngomane, the spokesperson for the Daveyton SAPS, the victim said she was standing near the food outlet when her son confronted her, questioning why she had provided his photo to the police.

“He allegedly told her that she deserved to be stabbed for giving such information to the police without his consent,” said Ngomane.

Man restrained

Fearing for her safety, the woman moved inside the outlet to avoid him, but he followed and allegedly began assaulting her. Store employees and security guards intervened and restrained him. While trying to flee, a knife fell from his pocket.

Separate incident

Ngomane added that the mall incident followed an assault on January 11, during which the suspect’s girlfriend was attacked at his mother’s home, allegedly by him.

When his mother tried to intervene, he reportedly threatened to assault her.

The girlfriend opened a case with the police.

Officers were called to the mall for Friday’s incident and arrested the suspect.

He appeared in the Daveyton Magistrate’s Court on Monday. The court outcome was not known at the time of publishing.
