The teacher was found in the roadway with a gunshot wound to the head.

A student teacher, who was shot in the head at a school in Newlands West in Durban this morning, is in critical condition.

Emer-G-Med paramedics, together with Netcare911, responded to the scene and found a man, about 30 years old, lying on the roadway next to a vehicle.

“The man sustained a single gunshot wound to the head, and he was in a critical condition,” said Emer-G-Med spokesperson Kyle van Reenen.

He said emergency-care practitioners worked fervently to stabilise the man before he was transported to hospital.

Events leading up to the shooting are unknown at this stage and will be investigated by SAPS.
