Stunning silver for SA’s men’s relay team

The 4x100m men’s relay team earned South Africa its first track medal and the fifth at the Olympics.

Kempton Park-born Akani Simbine crossed the finish-line with a time of 37.57s for South Africa (an African record) only second to Canada who crossed the line with a time of 37.50.

The South African relay team was made up of Bayanda Walaza who started and handed over the baton to Shaun Maswangani. Bradley Nkoana was responsible for handing over to Simbine to bring it home for SA.

South Africa’s medal tally currently stands at five with Tatjana Smith claiming the only gold medal after she won the women’s 100m breaststroke.
