Support provided for KZN businesses during Tourism Month

The province will be rolling out interventions to support local businesses including the launch of the second phase of the Tourism Relief Fund.

This September, Tourism Month is being commemorated under the theme: Tourism for Inclusive Growth.

Under this theme, the KZN Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) together with Tourism KwaZulu-Natal will join the world in celebrating the role tourism plays in generating economic opportunities for millions across the country.

“In keeping with this year’s theme, the province of KwaZulu-Natal will be rolling out activities that underpin and promote our transformation and inclusivity agenda which lies at the heart of people-centered tourism. Because we understand that people are the lifeblood of the KZN tourism industry, we want this Tourism Month to be an opportunity to look beyond just numbers but acknowledge that behind every number, there is a person who has a significant role to play,” said MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Ravi Pillay.

The province will be rolling out additional interventions to support local businesses and ensure they are ready to welcome visitors. Among these will be the launch of the second phase of the Tourism Relief Fund.

“Tourism Month always injects energy that inspires creativity and innovation by the industry, which culminates to truly exceptional experiences and products for consumers. There is plenty to see and do in the Zulu Kingdom during this time and while we are excited to welcome visitors old and new in the province- we want to encourage locals to travel and rediscover the gems and magic of their own backyard”, said Pillay.

The province has put in place measures to ensure Covid-19 safety and health protocols are adhered to at all the province’s signature events and attractions.
