Suspect arrested after Durban shooting

A man was severely injured and transported to hospital after being shot several times.

A 17-year-old suspect was apprehended following a shooting on Percy Johnson Road in Wentworth, Durban, yesterday afternoon.

It is alleged that a 40-year-old man was walking when he was approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects was armed.

“The armed suspect fired several shots at the victim. He sustained injuries on the upper body. The severely injured man was transported to hospital for treatment,” says Captain Mbuso Gumede, Wentworth police communications officer.

Gumede explains that Wentworth police detectives and Vispol members identified empty cartridges at the scene of the crime.

“One suspect was immediately arrested by metro police officers who acted swiftly. The suspect is detained in custody as the investigation continues,” says Gumede.

The detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder.

The police appeal to anyone who witnessed the shooting to call Crime Stop at 086 001 0111 or Wentworth police at 031 451 6240/6241/6242.
