Just in: Suspect arrested after shooting incident in Wentworth

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was transported to hospital for treatment.

A 17-year-old suspect has been apprehended following a shooting incident on Percy Johnson Road in Wentworth, this afternoon (February 14).

It is alleged that a 40-year-old man was walking when he was approached by two male suspects, of which one was armed.

Captain Mbuso Gumede, Wentworth police communications officer said, “The armed suspect fired several shots at the victim. He sustained injuries on the upper body. The severely injured man was transported to hospital for treatment.”

Gumede said that upon arrival of Wentworth police detectives and Vispol members, they identified empty cartridges at the scene of the crime. “One suspect was immediately arrested by Metro police officers who acted swiftly to a complaint. The suspect is detained in custody as the investigation continues,” said Gumede.

The detectives are investigating a case of attempted murder.
