A suspect has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping of a 26-year-old Northcliff woman after a co-ordinated operation by police, community structures, and private security companies, reports Northcliff Melville Times.

Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the investigation began after the woman was taken while arriving home in an Uber on August 5.

Police allege two armed men robbed the Uber driver before forcing the woman into another vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Nevhuhulwi said the incident prompted the activation of a multi-disciplinary task team, comprising the SAPS anti-kidnapping unit, SAPS Fairland, the Community Policing Forum (CPF), community patrollers, victim support, and Beagle Watch Armed Response.

Following up on information, officers arrested a man in Sebokeng on August 6 who is believed to have driven one of the vehicles used during the kidnapping.

“The team then followed further leads to Vosloorus, where the victim was found unharmed, although visibly shaken. She has since been reunited with her family.”

The suspect is expected to appear before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of kidnapping.

Police said investigations into the matter are continuing.
