Suspect shot dead during failed CIT heist in Gauteng

CIT guards were collecting cash from a store in Olievenhoutbosch when suspects tried to steal the money.

An armed suspect was shot dead during a failed cash in transit robbery at a shopping centre in Olievenhoutbosch in Tshwane on Thursday morning.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the CIT security guards were collecting cash from a store when the suspects stormed in.

He said at least seven heavily armed suspects were spotted at the scene.

“Reports indicate that cash in transit security guards were robbed of their firearms,” he said.

“One suspect was shot dead by a store security guard.”

Netshiunda said the suspects, however, failed to get away with the bags of cash.

He said the suspects fled the scene and police are searching for at least six of them.
