Suspect sought after stokvel socialising ends deadly in Mamelodi

A hunt is underway after two men were gunned down at a pub. Their suspected killer also fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Police are looking for a suspect who allegedly shot and killed two men at Nkuna’s Pub and Grill, Tsamaya Road in Mamelodi.

The shooting occurred on Sunday, and police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johan van Dyk says the victims were part of a stokvel that socialised at the pub every Sunday.

He adds that on this particular Sunday, the group were socialising at the pub when an unknown suspect walked in and opened fire on them.

“The first victim was outside the pub when the suspect shot him twice in the head.”

Van Dyk says the suspect then went inside the pub to shoot the second victim.

He adds the deceased allegedly told the suspect he was there ‘to drink and not to fight’.

“He was also shot twice in the head. The victim had apparently tried to escape but fell down at the entrance steps,” Van Dyk explains.

He says another man escaped, and adds that the suspect fled the scene on foot with an undisclosed amount of the stokvel money.

“Gauteng emergency services declared both men dead on the scene. Eleven cartridges and two projectiles were found,” Van Dyk concludes.

The reason for the shooting is unknown.
