Suspects arrested following Joburg shootout

Two suspects have been arrested and two others are still at large after a house robbery and ensuing shootout in Norscot, near Fourways, in the north of Johannesburg, earlier today.

Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said the victims were tied up and locked in a bedroom while the suspects ransacked the house before escaping in a red Nissan Sentra, Fourways Review reported.

“One of the victims then managed to untie himself and contacted our station, alerting us about the car and the whereabouts of the suspects,” added Muthan.

“The sector vehicle was immediately dispatched and, en route to the Norscot home, drove past a red Nissan Sentra and followed in pursuit. As the sector vehicle approached them, a shootout ensued,” said Muthan.

Two suspects managed to flee the scene, but two others were arrested, and all stolen items were recovered. No one was injured, added Muthan. Anyone with further information is urged to contact Douglasdale Police Station on 011-699-1333.

In a separate incident, three suspects dubbed “notorious house robbers” were arrested following ahigh-speed chase in Centurion, Pretoria.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said that while patrolling Sector 2, police officers received a call about a housebreaking in progress on Friday. While patrolling the area, police officers spotted a suspicious white Toyota Conquest Carri panel van.

“When police tried to pull over the vehicle, the occupants sped off and police gave chase. Police continued to chase and managed to stop them on the corner of Langebrink Road and Kruger Avenue,” added Gumbu.

“When police officers questioned the suspects, they found two plasma TVs in the vehicle. The men claimed the TVs belonged to them and they were taking them in for repair. When the officers searched the vehicle they found a kettle, a cellphone, make-up bag and a Fossil watch.
