Suspects sought for hijacking Pretoria officer driving police van

A police officer was reportedly accosted after he dropped off two victims, who opened a case at the Temba Police Station, at their homes.

A manhunt is underway to catch the three men who recently hijacked a police officer driving a police van in the north of Pretoria.

“The officer was dropping off two crime victims at their homes when he was hijacked,” says police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.

The victims had earlier opened a case at the Temba Police Station in Hammanskraal.

“After dropping off the second victim, the officer was accosted by three men who drove him to Winterveldt where they abandoned the vehicle,” she says and adds that the officer was robbed of his belongings.

Mathe called on the communities in the north of Pretoria to help in finding the suspects.

“Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects. We are calling on members of the public to work with members of the SAPS to prevent and combat criminality,” she adds.

“We cannot have a situation where police officers go beyond the call of duty by dropping off victims at their homes and such a heinous act happens. We are calling on the community to hand over those responsible.”
