Taxi boss shoots himself before cops can arrest him for Kinross murder

This taxi owner was supposed to appear before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday January 25, 2022.

A taxi boss suspected of being involved with the murder of a member of the Vukanini Taxi Association (Vukta) in November, allegedly killed himself before the police could arrest him on Thursday night, January 20.

According to a reliable source, the police traced the man to a house in Villiers.

They were knocking on the door when they heard a gunshot.

The police members barged in and found that he had shot himself. The man was declared dead on the scene.

This taxi owner was supposed to appear before the Evander Magistrate’s Court along with Elias Mhlanga (52) and Vuyisile Buthelezi (37) on Tuesday, January 25 for the murder of Mr Fannie Khumalo (51), a taxi boss who was shot and killed in his home in Kinross in November.

Khumalo was preparing his minibus taxis for the road when four men shot him seven times in the chest. He died on the spot.

Three suspects were arrested in December.

Vukanini Taxi Association members sing and dance outside the Evander Magistrate’s Court during the appearance of Elias Mhlanga and Vuyisile Buthelezi.

Mhlanga was denied bail by the Evander Magistrate’s Court, while Buthelezi refused to apply for bail.

The third suspect turned state witness.

The case against Buthelezi and Mhlanga was postponed till Monday, March 7 for further investigation.

Another taxi boss who was allegedly also involved in Khumalo’s murder shot himself dead at his home at eMbalenhle in December.
