Taxi operator shot and killed at Meyerton rank

The victim was fatally shot by two suspects who fled the scene in a silver vehicle.

A taxi operator was shot and killed in cold blood at the Meyerton taxi rank last night.

The brazen incident happened in full view of other taxi operators, marshalls, and commuters.

According to a source close to the incident, two suspects casually walked into the rank at around 18:23, walked to the taxi driver, opened fire, and walked back to a silver Toyota Corolla before fleeing the scene.

The motive of the shooting remains unknown, however, police are investigating the matter.

Several role players comprising SAPS, community policing forums, and private security companies attended to the shooting incident.

Emergency services personnel declared the operator deceased on the scene.

When Sedibeng Ster attended the crime scene, the lifeless body of the taxi operator was still lying in a pool of blood – covered with foil.

At the time of publishing this story, police had not responded to enquiries.
